Iron Maiden kicks off Final Frontier in Dallas

It’s been five years since IRON MAIDEN rocked Dallas and the question was, could they pack Superpages.com Center in the middle of the week?  The answer was  – hell yes!

The Final Frontier Tour – which is in support of MAIDEN’s upcoming album of the same name – kicked off the first leg here in Dallas last night.  In support was DREAM THEATER, who put on a great show and really got the crowd going.  I was worried about the turn out though as there didn’t seem to be much – the lawn at Superpages.com was pretty empty.  However my worry was unfounded because by the time MAIDEN hit the stage there was a wall of people from the stage to the far back wall of the lawn all chanting for the London metal band.

MAIDEN kicked things off with ‘Wicker Man’ to the very vocal appreciation of the crowd.  The new stage set up is impressive – making you feel like you’re on a colony on another planet – and gives singer Bruce Dickinson plenty of room to climb.  Dallas fans were the first ever to hear a song off the new album live, ‘El Dorado’, and it was met with huge excitement.  If this song is anything to go by MAIDEN’s new album will kick some serious ass.

The night continued with songs we all know and love such as ‘These Colours Don’t Run’, ‘Brave New World’, and ‘Iron Maiden’ and the three song encore consisted of ‘The Number of the Beast’, ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ and ‘Running Free’.  If there was any question about whether MAIDEN could still kick ass and take names it was answered last night.  They are simply amazing and the crowd loved them – from the young (I saw kids that were no more than ten years old and some younger) to the old.  MAIDEN fans are diverse but they all come together for one thing – real heavy metal!
