Dallas is Going To Hell

Anytime The Pretty Reckless come to town, fans in Dallas get pretty excited. October 4, 2013 was no different. People lined up to see the Going To Hell Tour, consisting of The Pretty RecklessHeaven’s Basement from the UK, and Louna from Russia. Already a fan of The Pretty Reckless and having heard Heaven’s Basement before but not seen them live, I was looking forward to the show. Louna I had not heard of until that night but they made a very lasting impression for more than just one reason.

Just before heading out to the House of Blues we got an email – a press release from Louna’s label stating that the band had been having lunch around noon that day in downtown Dallas and someone had robbed their tour van. Computers, iPads, clothes, money, passports, nearly everything was taken. If there was a bright side to it at all it was that their instruments had been saved. Stashed in the back of the van it appeared the thieves had been spooked before they got to the guitars. I was concerned we wouldn’t get to see Louna play at all. When we arrived at the venue we ended up talking with Louna’s tour manager – who had literally lost everything except the clothes on his back and his phone. Despite being shaken up and trying to salvage what he could, he said the show was still going on.

And it was a fantastic show. This was Louna’s first time in the US and they weren’t going to let some thieves get them down. They came out and rocked the house – despite the crowd still being relatively small. Louna’s female vocalist, Lou, proved she was much more than just a pretty face and put on one hell of a show with some very impressive screams combined with clean vocals. Definitely pick up a CD and you’ll hear just how much Russia can rock.

Heaven’s Basement was the next band up. I’m a big fan of British rock and was looking forward to seeing these guys live. They didn’t let me down one bit. Vocalist Aaron Buchanan had more than enough energy for everyone in the venue and was bouncing around the stage. And eventually off the stage and into the crowd as well – much to their delight and security’s annoyance.

The Pretty Reckless kept the crowd waiting for a while before finally coming out on stage. But once things finally got going they delivered as they always do – a killer show. Vocalist Taylor Momsen sounded spot on as always and the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand. With a nice mix of songs from old and new albums they pretty much played all the fan favorites. There wasn’t a lot of chatting between songs but the crowd didn’t seem to mind one bit.

All in all it was a great show. If you follow us on Facebook you saw our post on one way to help Louna recover a bit from the theft in Dallas – you can donate via PayPal using the email lounarocks@gmail.com. If you’re in Dallas and you find any Louna DVDs being sold please contact the Dallas PD. They were among the items stolen. Of course you can support all the bands by buying their albums. The Going To Hell Tour is still ongoing so catch a show if you get a chance. You won’t be sorry.
