Uproar Festival rocks despite rain

Though the rain may have stopped some from coming out to Gexa on Sunday, the fans that did attend Uproar Festival were having a great time. Despite being soaked to the skin from an earlier downpour the fans were still full of energy when the Main Stage started up.

Starting off the main stage was ADELITAS WAY. Though the set was short they got the crowd going and lead vocalist, Rick DeJesus, teased the pit by saying he was going to jump off stage and come see them. And by the time they went from “The Collapse” to “Invincible” he did just that, diving off the stage and crowd surfing for a bit before finishing up the song and heading out. Definitely would have liked to see more from this band. Hopefully they’ll head back to Dallas on a headlining tour soon.

After a quick set change it was time for STAIND. I’ve loved this band for a long time and was looking forward to taking pictures. Sadly from a photography standpoint that was not an easy thing. Aaron Lewis, please don’t wear a baseball hat on stage. All photos look like you have no eyes! But photography aside STAIND put on a solid set with “Eyes Wide Open”, “It’s Been Awhile” and “Outside” among the ten songs.

Even though it was still drizzling out on the lawn the crowd when wild when GODSMACK took the stage. This was, in my opinion, the best set of the night. Starting off with “The Enemy” and quickly getting to “Cryin’ Like a Bitch” they were already off to a great start. But when vocalist Sully took up a drum set that slid out on stage and drummer Shannon’s set slid forward to meet Sully’s things got really interesting. In what was probably one of the best drum battles I’ve ever seen the two really went at it and showed a huge amount of talent much to the delight of the crowd. And just when you thought they couldn’t top that, GODSMACK pulled out a tribute to Dimebag Darrell with the song “This Love” which brought out band members from all the bands throughout the day. It was truly a touching tribute and really brought the Dallas fans to an even higher level of energy.

Which was perfect because last but not least we had SHINEDOWN. With tons of energy and some great pyro, SHINEDOWN did a great job in keeping the energy going. Starting out with “Sound of Madness” and “Diamond Eyes” the entire set was made up of hits and the crowd sang along loud and strong. After playing hit “Bully” the guys slowed things down and vocalist Brent Smith and guitarist Zack Myers headed to a small stage near the soundboard for an acoustic cover of Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” that was just beautiful. It was all energy though for the finale of “Fly From the Inside”, completely with fireworks, pyro and confetti to wrap up the night.
