With the summer concert season coming to a close, a few tours were still headed down to the Lone Star State. The Rock Allegiance Tour hit Grand Prairie and Houston, Tx this past week it continued its twenty four city tour of North America. And though ticket sales have been a bit lower than most would have liked, that didn’t stop the bands from putting on a killer show or the fans that were there from showing their love.

Vans Warped Tour braves the Texas heat
It takes a dedicated fan to stand in the sun all day in 106-degree weather for a music festival. On Friday, August 2, approximately 18,000 of these hardcore fans converged on Gexa Energy Pavilion in Fair Park for the 2013 Vans Warped Tour. They braved the heat with good reason: with over 100 bands on nine stages, this is one of the biggest live music events to hit Dallas every year.
Mayhem Fest 2013
Mayhem Fest wraps things up in the Texas heat
The first thing you notice about Mayhem Fest is the heat. August in Dallas, Texas is hard on any band playing an outside gig – and hard on the fans – but put three stages full of bands out at Gexa Energy Pavilion and start the whole thing at 1pm and you’ve got a seriously metal experience.
The Sword, Castle
The Sword kicks off tour with Castle and American Sharks
Austin, Texas locals The Sword launched their North American tour on Thursday, July 25, at the Granada Theater in Dallas. Joining them on tour are fellow Austin rockers American Sharks and San Francisco doom/thrash trio Castle.
Valient Thorr, Gypsyhawk, Ramming Speed
Blistering metal at Three Links
One word that doesn’t spring to mind when thinking of metal acts Valient Thorr, Gypsyhawk, and Ramming Speed is “mellow.” And yet, the show featuring these bands at Three Links in Deep Ellum on Thursday, June 27, started out as precisely that. Whether it was due to the oppressive heat outside, or the house music featuring such metal favorites as Michael Bublé, there was a distinctly mellow vibe while waiting for the show to start.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift Turns Dallas Red
What better way to spend a Saturday night than with a few friends at a great concert? How about spending it with 55,000 of them. That’s the number of people that filled Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on May 25, 2013 for Taylor Swift’s Red Tour.
P!nk
Truth About Love Tour rocks Dallas
Friday night, February 22, 2013, was one hell of a way to kick off the weekend in Dallas, Tx. American Airlines Center was sold out and packed to the rafters as fans flocked in to see the first proper tour of the sensational P!nk. And they were not to be disappointed.
Skeletonwitch, Havok
Skeletonwitch and Havok bring U.S. Abomination Tour to Dallas
Thrash metalers Skeletonwitch and Havok arrived at Trees on Thursday, Oct. 18, for the Dallas stop of the 63-shows-in-65-days “U.S. Abomination Tour.” Joined on this leg of the tour by Skeletonwitch’s Prosthetic Records label-mate Mutilation Rites, these guys are leaving a swath of destruction in their wake. If you think that is pure hyperbole, consider the fact that Big Tex went up in flames mere hours after the show ended.
All-American Rejects, Boys Like Girls
The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls are not afraid of the dark
The House of Blues Dallas played host to The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls on Wednesday, Oct 3. Occasionally, the screaming throng of teenage girls in attendance was actually able to see the members of the bands, when a random flash of light broke up the darkness that the bands spent the majority of their time standing in. Maybe it was an attempt to get the kids ready for the haunted houses they were sure to be attending soon. Regardless, it was not an ideal way to see the bands these fans had come to see.
Riot Fest Dallas
Riot Fest surges southward into Dallas
Riot Fest set up camp at Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas on Saturday for its first date in the south. The punk, metal and alternative rock festival was founded in Chicago in 2005, and began expanding its range last year. Rather than simply touring a fixed list of bands, though, Riot Fest combined a selection of headlining bands from the Chicago event with local Texas bands on the side stages.
